Prince William

By now, most people know the story of the famous see-through dress that sparked
the royal romance. After seeing Kate Middleton walk a college charity runway in a
sheer sheath, Prince William reportedly ended the “just friends” phase with an
emphatic “Kate’s hot!” TLC's "William & Kate: Inside the Royal Wedding" is now
elaborating on their first impressions with newly released interviews.

The sit-down with Prince William and Middleton took place during the couple’s engagement
announcement, which is immediately evident thanks to Kate Middleton’s recognizable blue dress.
Prince William reveals that he was interested his fiancée from the moment he saw her.
“When I first met Kate, I knew there was something very special about her,” he said. “I wanted to
explore that, but we ended up being friends for a while and that was a good sort of foundation.”
It does have undertones of an episode of “The Bachelor,” thanks to the music playing beneath his
confession, but it sounds admittedly more romantic with his British accent. And though Middleton
just nods and laughs at his admissions (especially his comment that he’s “obviously extremely funny,
and she loves that”), we also hear what she initially thought of the prince.
Middleton’s childhood friend appears on-camera to offer an account of how Middleton initially
described Prince William – or “Willie.”
It seems Middleton actually met the prince before college when he attended one of her school
hockey games. “As soon as he saw her, his eyes lit up. She said ‘I’d love to become a princess one
day. I’d love to marry Prince William. It would be the icing on the cake. It would be a wonderful
life. He seems like a lovely guy,’” said Jessica Hay, who describes hearing about William again
after Middleton left for college.
“She met this really nice boy. She said a ‘boy.’ I said ‘what’s his name?’ and she said ‘Willie.’
She said he was absolutely lovely and that she might be falling in love.”
Though we now know how that story ends, but it is nice to get a new window into how it began.
